Electric cars: sales share almost stable in April
The share of electric cars in new registrations almost reaches the previous year's figures – even without government incentives.
Some manufacturers already offer discounts for new cars in the configurator. In the case of VW, these are sometimes several thousand euros.

The purchase subsidy for electric cars is a thing of the past. Nevertheless, the proportion of new cars with battery-electric drive systems fell only slightly. Last April, just under 29,700 electric cars were registered for the first time, according to the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). With a decrease of 0.2 percent, this was roughly the same number as in April 2023. This means that the registration figures are only just below those of the previous year. In March, their share was still 30 percent below the 2023 figures.
Crisis of confidence
The President of the Association of International Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (VBIK), Reinhard Zirpel, noted: "The BEV segment is currently suffering a crisis of confidence, which was mainly caused by the decision to abolish the electric bonus at short notice." According to the KBA, a total of around 243,102 passenger cars were registered for the first time in Germany in April. This was almost 20 percent more than in the same month last year.
