Apple is apparently planning several new macOS machines for October – and has now started tests using external apps. Developers have reported that a total of four as yet unknown model identifiers have appeared in log files. These are called "16,1", "16,2", "16,3" and "16.10". The "16" appears to stand for the new M4 processor, which is currently only used in the iPad Pro, but is expected to make its debut in the Mac this fall.

The financial news agency Bloomberg also believes an a date one month after this year's iPhone launch, which will probably be on September 10. The model identifiers mentioned therefore stand for the entry-level variants of the M4, each of which is said to contain ten CPU cores, with a low-end variant containing just eight. Ten GPU cores were counted in each case, the low-end model apparently has eight. The RAM configuration is 16 or 32 GB.

Bloomberg had previously reported that in addition to new MacBook Pro models, a new iMac with M4 SoC and a redesigned Mac mini with M4 will also be released in the autumn. iMac and MacBook Pro are expected to change very little in terms of form factor, while the Mac mini is said to be shrinking – in the direction of a slightly higher Apple TV model, according to speculation. New tandem OLED displays for notebooks are not expected until next year, and Apple has only used them in the iPad Pro so far.

It is still unclear whether Apple will launch the long-awaited larger iMac model with Apple Silicon. Only 24-inch screens are currently available, the 27-inch model was never upgraded from the Intel version to the ARM world. It was recently reported that Apple is still pursuing the plan to include a larger all-in-one computer in its range, possibly even with 30 inches instead of 27 inches.

However, this is unlikely to happen before 2025. The reason for this could be that Apple currently lacks a high-quality panel – It would have to be something better than the 27-inch display with 5K that is currently in the Studio Display. Among other things, it lacks HDR support and is a few years old, even if it is otherwise praised by testers. Apple is currently still charging 1749 euros per unit.
