AMD Ryzen 8000F: Camouflaged Ryzen 7000 now also available individually
The Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F come without a GPU. However, 7000 models are cheaper and faster.

AMD is launching the two desktop processors Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F for AM5 mainboards. Like the 8000G models, they belong to the Hawk Point family, but do without its main feature: the powerful integrated graphics unit. Interested parties must pair the processors with a separate graphics card. Previously, the two models were only available for complete PCs.
On the CPU side, the Ryzen 8000Fs use Zen 4 technology just like the 7000 series, but with reduced clock frequencies and halved level 3 cache due to their notebook origins. As a result, the Ryzen 7 7700X, which has been available for some time, should be faster than the Ryzen 7 8700F and the Ryzen 5 7600 should be faster than the Ryzen 5 8400F. Another plus point for the 7000 models is that they have a small integrated graphics unit that is sufficient for simple image output.

With clock speeds of 4.1 to 5.0 GHz, the Ryzen 7 8700F is 400 MHz slower than the Ryzen 7 7700X. The level 3 cache only holds 16 MByte instead of 32 MByte – which costs frame rate, especially in games.
Opaque Ryzen AI support
The integrated AI unit is active in the Ryzen 7 8700F, but AMD only describes the processor as "Ryzen AI ready". AMD does not comment on the range of functions, apparently it is either limited or there are conditions under which Ryzen AI runs. Meanwhile, the AI unit is completely deactivated on the Ryzen 5 8400F.
To compete with the Ryzen 7000 on the market, the 8000F models will have to drop in price. The Ryzen 7 8700F (ab 219,80 €) currently costs as much as the faster Ryzen 7 7700X (ab 267,37 €). For the price of the Ryzen 5 8400F (ab 164,98 €), you can almost get a Ryzen 5 7600X (ab 198,70 €) at the moment. The Ryzen 5 7600 (ab 178,82 €) is significantly cheaper. German retailers are already undercutting AMD's price recommendations for the Ryzen 8000F.
