Ecovacs Deebot: X5 looks better when cleaning, T30 gets handheld vacuum buddy

The cleaning robot brand Ecovacs is revamping its range of vacuum and mopping devices. The angular top-of-the-range Deebot X5 has been given a wider sensor band at the front. As a result, it remains as flat as the previous generation but, according to the manufacturer, navigates better in angled areas than its predecessor, the X2. The T30S model, which is technically below it, is based on the X series for self-cleaning. It houses a hand-held battery-powered vacuum cleaner as a kind of dinghy, which shares the suction station with the robot. The base station of the entry-level Deebot N20 series is equipped with a bagless suction device for the first time.

Deebot X5 should be less messy

Like the two previous X2 variants, the X5 has a D-shaped robot housing. It is only round at the back and square at the front. This should ensure a more thorough cleaning of edges and corners. To ensure that this also works under very flat furniture, the laser navigator is located in the front instead of in a tower. In the X2 and the X2 Combo, the front navigation system proved to be immature, either causing rear bumps or overlooking partial areas. For this reason, Ecovacs has extended the sensor band around the sides of the X5 so that it covers at least a 180-degree angle. A slight zig-zag driving style is intended to further improve side visibility.

As a further innovation, the X5 extends one of two rotating mops to clean the edges. At the highest suction level, it is designed to transport coarse dirt into the suction nozzle at up to 12800 Pascal. The X5 Omni comes in a set with a self-cleaning station that temporarily stores dirt and washes the mops - twice, if a sensor detects a lot of dirt in the shag. The appliance will be available from June 25 in white or black at a price of 1100 euros.

T30S Combo: Base charges and empties handheld vacuum cleaner

The T30S vacuum and mopping robot is round, so that navigation problems are not to be expected due to its angular housing. Like the X5, it has high suction power of up to 11,000 Pascal and an extendable mop. But the most important innovation is not in the robot, but in its self-cleaning station. If you buy the "Combo" version, an additional module is flange-mounted to the base, which contains a handheld vacuum cleaner. This charges its battery in the station and shares the automatic suction device of the T30S – just like the X2 Combo, which is still available.

The newcomer is available in four versions. The T30S Combo has a white housing and includes the cordless vacuum cleaner at a price of 1200 euros. The black T30S Combo Complete comes with a tube extension and floor brush (1,300 euros). If you don't need the handheld vacuum cleaner, consider the T30S without the additional equipment (1,000 euros, white housing). The trio will be available from June 25.

The T30S Pro does not have an extra vacuum cleaner, but it does have a camera with image pattern recognition, which is designed to clean more thoroughly around cat litter trays or food bowls, for example. It will be available from September for 1,100 euros in a black housing.

Deebot N20 deposits dust in bagless suction station

The Ecovacs Deebot N20 is an entry-level vacuum and mopping robot. Its maximum suction power is 8000 Pascal. Like more expensive models, it can map the work area and divide it into rooms. The mopping cloth of the N20 Pro Plus model can scrub more firmly thanks to a vibration motor, while the N20 Plus simply moves behind it.

Both variants have a suction station that temporarily stores dirt in a 1.5-liter container. Unlike other Ecovacs models and those of most brands, this one does not contain a cloth bag, but can simply be tipped out. This saves having to buy additional accessories. The base does not have a mop washing system.

From June 25, the Deebot N20 Plus will be available in white for 400 euros and the N20 Pro Plus in black or white for 500 euros.
