Kali Linux 2024.4 is here and comes with 14 new tools, among other things. This allows pentesters and security researchers to test the security of IT systems in even greater detail.
The developers explain the new features in an article. The new tools include bloodyad for testing the vulnerability of Active Directory environments to privilege elevation attacks. Hexwalk serves as a hex editor and mssqlpwner maltreats MSSQl servers.
Further new features
The Python interpreter is now Python 3.12. The now implemented OpenSSH (9.8p1) no longer processes DSA keys for security reasons. If you still want to examine SSH servers working with it, you must now use the command ssh1
instead of ssh
.
The developers have also announced the end of 32-bit images and kernels. However, there are still 32-bit packages that can be executed on 64-bit systems via i386 Docker images, for example.
Thanks to the new Gnome 47 desktop environment, users can now customize the appearance of the system even more extensively. The official Raspberry Pi Imager tool can now be used to customize Kali Linux installations and pre-configure WLAN connections, for example. In addition, the Raspberry Pi 500 is now also supported.
According to the developers, the Android version Kali NetHunter now supports around 100 devices. These include, for example, the Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite and the Xiaomi Mi A3, the first device with Android 15.
Kali Linux 2024.4 is now available for download. If you are already using the system, you can also update to the latest version. The complete change log for Kali Linux 2024.3 can be viewed online.
