HTC announces a new smartphone for mid-June, presumably the U24 Pro
The successor to the HTC U23 Pro from 2023 is an upper mid-range smartphone, probably with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7. The phone will be unveiled on June 12.

HTC was known for many years for modern cell phones, but no longer plays a major role in current smartphones and has withdrawn from many regions of the world. However, the Taiwanese manufacturer is not giving up on the smartphone business and has announced a new mobile device for mid-June. This is likely to be the HTC U24 Pro, the successor to the HTC U23 Pro launched last year.
The HTC U23 Pro was launched in May 2023, meaning that the usual one-year period for smartphone manufacturers to launch a successor has now expired. An HTC U24 Pro would therefore fit in at this time. HTC does not provide any details in the announcement on its Taiwanese Facebook page, but only reveals that there will be a new smartphone on June 12, 2024 at 8 a.m. local time (2 a.m. CEST) and shows a device from the side. Interested parties should be able to pre-order the phone online at this time, at least in Taiwan.
HTC's market share has fallen rapidly
Recently, HTC has only launched new smartphones in its home country and in Europe, so the introduction of a new model in Taiwan fits in with the company's strategy. The manufacturer has largely abandoned the large markets in the USA and China, meaning that HTC's global market share has fallen below 1 percent. According to Statista, HTC still had a global market share of around 10 percent of smartphones shipped in 2011.
HTC has not revealed the name of the new smartphone in advance, but some technical details of a new smartphone from HTC have already been leaked. At the end of April, corresponding information was found in Google's Play Console. Although no name was given here either, the new HTC model will have 12 GB of main memory, a screen resolution of 1080x2436 pixels and use the Android 14 operating system.
CPU from the Snapdragon 7 series
The processor of the new HTC smartphone has eight cores from Qualcomm's Kryo 7 series, four of which clock at 2200 MHz and four at 1800 MHz. This indicates a chip from the Snapdragon 7 series. The HTC U23 Pro is already based on a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 and it is assumed that the U24 Pro is the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 that will be launched in fall 2023. However, it clocks at up to 2.63 GHz, at least with a so-called primary core. The other three power cores (ARM Cortex-A715), however, run at 2.4 GHz, so these specifications would fit. The 1.8 GHz clock frequency of the four efficiency cores (Cortex-A510) of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 also corresponds to the information from the Play Console.
Official details on the new smartphone, probably called the HTC U24 Pro, are expected next week on Wednesday when the phone is launched in Taiwan. Whether and when it will also come to Europe and at what price remains to be seen and should be known either in mid-June or shortly thereafter.
