Medion: Website and more currently unavailable
Medion has been struggling with disruptions since last week: The websites are not accessible, e-mails are not being answered.
Medion's websites, e-mails and telephones are struggling with disruptions and are partially unavailable. The situation has been ongoing since last week.
E-mail inquiries from heise online remained unanswered up to the time of reporting. The telephone numbers in the imprint are also unavailable. The request to the telephone hotline was somewhat successful; a prepared message was read out there. According to this, the problem has existed since Wednesday of last week. It is a system fault, which means that Medion can only be reached to a limited extent. Written inquiries, for example by e-mail, cannot be answered at present. However, the specialist department is working flat out to find a solution.
Far-reaching disruption at Medion
It is rather rare that the disruption lasts for such a long time and also affects mail and telephone systems. According to readers, the Medion Life+ app is also currently not working. So far, this has been observed more in the case of massive IT attacks –, but no information was available from Medion to confirm this.
The German website at medion.de has been redirecting to de.medion.com for some time – the domain is also unavailable. Both seem to be hosted in the same data center, the distance between the IP addresses is only two. No load balancer, content delivery network (CDN) or protection against dDoS can be identified.
In the absence of detailed answers, it is currently not possible to say with certainty what the confirmed faults are due to. If Medion gets back to us, we will provide further information.
IT security incidents caused by ransomware attacks, for example, occasionally have a serious impact on business operations. In February, for example, battery manufacturer Varta had to halt production due to a cyber incident.
