Mobile communications: Deutsche Telekom switches all 4G contracts to 5G
All Deutsche Telekom mobile customers will soon be able to use 5G - at no extra charge. Many business tariffs will also be converted.

Deutsche Telekom is switching older mobile tariffs to 5G: From Friday, all consumer tariffs will offer access to the 5G network in addition to the existing 4G network, Deutsche Telekom announced. Several business customer tariffs will also offer access to the new mobile communications standard from Friday at no extra charge.
Most Deutsche Telekom tariffs already have 5G access. The change will primarily affect users and business customers on older tariffs. According to Deutsche Telekom, there are more than four million customers on these tariffs who are now using the 5G network for the first time.
To really be able to use 5G, you need a cell phone with a compatible modem in addition to the tariff. Almost all modern cell phones support 5G, but many older models can only access the network via 4G (LTE). For users of such smartphones, nothing will change for the time being.
Data flat rate for the EM
"We are delighted that all our customers can now experience the full power of the best network," said Deutsche Telekom manager Wolfgang Metze, commenting on the change. The previous conditions will remain the same for all affected tariffs. 5G will be made available automatically in the affected tariffs, users do not have to do anything.
Deutsche Telekom is also offering users of many tariffs free data volume from Friday to coincide with the start of the European Championships: from June 14 to July 14, there will be a data flat rate in which participating users can surf the Deutsche Telekom network without restriction and at no extra charge. The data flat rate can be booked in the MeinMagenta app via the Magenta Moments loyalty program. The MagentaMobil incl. Young, Data, Business Mobil, Business Mobil Data, PlusCards, Family Card, CombiCards and MagentaEins Unlimited tariffs are eligible - provided they were booked after 2011. In addition, all prepaid tariffs with included data volume are eligible to take part in the offer.
