Northern Lights over Germany - the best pictures are in demand
We are looking for aurora photos from our community. The best photos will be published in a picture gallery.
Due to an exceptionally strong solar storm, colorful auroras could be seen in large parts of Germany over the past few nights. Northern lights - also known as aurora borealis - are a natural phenomenon in which high-energy charged particles interact with the Earth's magnetic field and create colorful lights in the sky. The phenomenon normally only occurs in northern latitudes between the 3rd and 6th parallel. In the past few days, however, it could also be seen over Germany and as far south as southern Europe. There, however, it was not visible to the naked eye, but could be better photographed. The strength of the solar storm is unusual and was last observed in this form more than 20 years ago.
We are therefore looking for the most impressive aurora photos from our community. So if you have managed to capture images of this fascinating natural phenomenon, please send us your photos or timelapse videos to: red@heise-foto.de
