Ubisoft: New "Heroes of Might and Magic" is being developed in the home office
Ubisoft is redeveloping a strategy classic with "Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era". Early Access will begin next year.

The strategy series "Heros of Might and Magic" is returning ten years after its most recent spin-off: Under the auspices of Ubisoft, the studio Unfrozen is developing a new installment with "Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era".
Heise online was able to attend a Gamescom presentation before the game was announced on Thursday evening. Olden Era" proved to be a largely faithful remake with a few changes in detail and a somewhat cartoonish graphic style.
Prequel to the first part
"Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era" is once again set on the continent of Enroth. The campaign tells the origin story of some well-known characters from the "HoMM" universe, so it takes place before the events of part 1. Some factions should be familiar to long-time fans: Necropolis, Dungeon and Temple, among others, are back in the game, along with new factions such as Hive.
In addition to the campaign, the new "Heroes of Might and Magic" can also be played in skirmishes and multiplayer mode. A map editor for the community has also been announced.
The artifacts have been revised and can now be categorized into sets in typical Diablo fashion. The more set parts a hero wears, the more bonuses the equipment gives. This should make builds more flexible and interesting. In addition, kingdoms now unlock their own perks in the form of laws, so that the starting factions also play a more important role later in the game.
Development in the home office
'Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era' is being developed by the studio Unfrozen, which previously produced 'Iratus: Lord of the Dead'. In 2020, the studio pitched the idea to Ubisoft, which was accepted in 2021. Founded in 2016, the studio has 50 employees. An exciting detail: Unfrozen always works remotely. The new "HoMM" is therefore being created entirely from home.
"Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era" is set to be available as an Early Access game in 2025, with the release of version 1.0 planned for 2026.
