With the GFX 100S II, Fujifilm is launching a new mirrorless medium format camera, which can be seen as the little sister of the Fujifilm GFX 100 II introduced in 2023. With a weight of around 883 grams and a compact design, it is the lightest camera in the medium format series.
GFX 102MP CMOSII sensor and pixel shift function
Like its big sister, the GFX100S II is equipped with the newly developed 102 megapixel large format sensor ("GFX 102MP CMOSII"). This is around 1.7 times the size of a 35 mm full-frame sensor and has a basic sensitivity of ISO 80 as well as an optimized dynamic range. The camera is also equipped with a high-speed image processor, the "X-Processor 5", which ensures particularly fast autofocus. With the help of AI and machine learning, the autofocus not only focuses on eyes and people, but also recognizes animals, birds, insects, drones, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, trains and planes. A feature that all new Fujifilm cameras offer.
The GFX100S II has a built-in 5-axis image stabilizer, which according to the manufacturer is the most advanced in its class and allows up to eight EV stops longer exposure times - two stops more than the previous GFX100S model. The GFX 102MP CMOSII moving sensor also has a pixel shift function. With this so-called "Pixel Shift Multi Shot" function, 16 RAW images can be taken, whereby the sensor is shifted by 0.5 pixels with each shot. The 16 images can then be combined into one image with up to 400 megapixels in post-processing using "Pixel Shift Combiner" software.

High shutter speeds and 4K videos
The shutter speeds of the GFX100S II are 1/4,000 seconds with the mechanical shutter and 1/16,000 seconds with the electronic shutter; its big sister, the GFX100 II, even offers an impressive 1/32,000 seconds. With the continuous shooting function of up to seven images per second and more than 184 JPEGs or 30 compressed RAW images in a row, the new medium format camera is also fast, but not as fast as the GFX100, which can take eight images per second.
The camera is also suitable for video recording and can record videos in 4K quality at 30 frames per second. The videos are saved with a color depth of 4:2:2 and 10 bit on the SD card, for which the camera has two SD slots. There is also the option of recording video on an external SSD, so that videos in the high-quality but particularly memory-hungry Apple ProRes.K codec are also possible.

The GFX100S II is intended to appeal to discerning photographers who value particularly high image quality, such as fashion or landscape photographers. At the same time, Fujifilm wants this mirrorless medium format camera to provide an easy and somewhat more affordable introduction to large format photography.
The GFX100S II will be available in stores from mid-June 2024 at a price of around 5,500 euros.

Fujifilm is also offering a super telephoto lens to match the GFX100S II. The GF500mmF5.6 R LM O IS WR has a focal length of up to 500 mm, which corresponds to 396 mm in 35 mm format. This makes it the longest lens in Fujifilm's GFX series and weighs around 1,375 grams. In combination with the Fujinon GF1.4X TC WR teleconverter, which extends the focal length of the lens, a maximum focal length of 700 mm (equivalent to 554 mm in 35 mm format) can be achieved. The lightweight construction, the powerful image stabilizer and the fast autofocus make the super telephoto lens particularly interesting for sports and nature photographers.
The Fujinon GF500mm will be available from mid-June for around 3900 euros.
