"Pokémon: Trading Card Game" is coming to the iPhone
Pokémon fans can look forward to a new iOS app. The TCG, which has been around since 1996, is going digital. Android is also coming.
Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have announced a new "Pokémon" game for the iPhone. The title called Pokémon TCG Pocket can already be pre-ordered in the App Store and will be officially released at the end of October. It is intended to digitize the trading card game and allows users to collect corresponding cards. Users who open the application will receive two new packs every day.
Android also included
In addition to the iOS version, there will also be an Android version at the same time, as stated in the official game trailer. The game will be free to download and will include in-app purchases – and the specific prices are not yet listed in the App Store.
The Pokemon Company, which is publishing the title together with Nintendo, has had Creatures Inc create new visual effects for each card "that are only possible digitally". Only in the app are there also so-called immersion cards in 3D style; it is not clear from the trailer whether they will be displayed in augmented reality. There will be albums and galleries for maps as well as effortless to complete battles – either against friends or alone. In addition to the iPhone version, there will also be an iPad version.
"Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp" says goodbye
Another popular Nintendo title, the "Pocket Camp" version of "Animal Crossing", will soon be discontinued, as the game manufacturer has announced on its US website. After seven years, it will be discontinued at the end of November. Instead of the freemium app including online service, there will be a paid offline version in the future. This will be "largely" the same as the current version, although functions such as market boxes, gifts and visiting other users' campsites will no longer be available. Leaf Tickets, the in-game currency, will also no longer work. "You cannot transfer them to the new app," warns Nintendo: they must be spent beforehand.
Neither in-app sales nor subscriptions will be available in the new version. Events within the game that are part of the Pocket Camp service will no longer be available. The corresponding subscriptions will expire at the end of October and the servers will be shut down later. Game saves will be transferable to the new app, provided you have a Nintendo account. The manufacturer has not yet announced a price for the offline version. We can only hope that the money invested in Leaf Tickets will not be lost.
