AMD & Intel: Rumors of new processor reissues

Both AMD and Intel are said to be planning processor reissues. Interested parties would be fooled into believing that old technology is up to date.

If you want to buy a notebook for Christmas, you should probably take a closer look at the processor. According to rumors, AMD and Intel are once again relaunching CPU series at the end of the year – as Ryzen 200 and Core 200. This is reported by the Chinese Weibo account "金猪升级包", which has already been correct several times.

The Ryzen 200 is said to be a new edition of the Ryzen 8040 (Hawk Point), which in turn was a new edition of the Ryzen 7040 (Phoenix) from the beginning of 2023. The 8000 models received improvements to the AI unit (Neural Processing Unit, NPU), but used the same chips. With the Ryzen 200, only a slightly higher clock rate and perhaps firmware optimizations could be expected. It would remain with eight Zen 4 cores from TSMC's 4-nanometer production.

In a confusing way, Ryzen 200 would even fit into AMD's current naming scheme: According to AMD, the current Ryzen AI 300 are called that because they use the third NPU generation – whereas the Hawk Point processors use the second generation. AMD is supposedly omitting the AI suffix. However, it is not clear to us why a CPU series is being relaunched that does not use the highest current number at the start.

Meanwhile, Intel is said to be planning the third launch of its Raptor Lake processors. The Core 200 would therefore be technically identical to the Core 100 (not Ultra!) and Core i-13000 from the beginning of 2023. They originate from Intel 7 production with up to 14 CPU cores (8 performance + 6 efficiency cores) and do not yet have an AI unit.

Within the 200 series, there would then be three different processor types: the announced Core Ultra 200V aka Lunar Lake, the upcoming Arrow Lakes probably as Core Ultra 200U/H and the Core 200U/H as Raptor Lake Re-Refresh.
