AirPlay streaming in hotels: Samsung is also on board

Apple has found another partner for its new AirPlay hotel function. After LG had already announced that it would be equipping its Hospitality TVs with the feature, its competitor Samsung has now also joined in, as the company announced in a press release. "Samsung Electronics announced today that Samsung Hospitality TV will be compatible with AirPlay." Hotel guests will soon be able to connect their iPhones and iPads to televisions in hotel rooms.

With AirPlay for hotels, content can be sent from an Apple mobile device directly to the large TV in the hotel room without having to establish a permanent connection. The connection is established via a unique QR code that is displayed on the TV and must be photographed. There is no need for an additional special app or to enter logins and passwords to use the TV for streaming content. As soon as you check out, the data is reset so that no new connection is possible.
LG supports the "Pro:Centric Smart Hotel TV" series, and it should also be possible to make older devices compatible via an update. Support will also be rolled out gradually at Samsung. The first supported model is the HBU8000. After that, "other existing devices" will be made ready for AirPlay via an update. Central control will be via Samsung's LYNK cloud offering. "The integration of Apple's AirPlay is part of Samsung's comprehensive strategy to improve the in-room experience for hotel guests and provide powerful management tools for hotel operators," the company advertises.
Hotel partners should have as little stress as possible
Apple hopes that the new feature will spread quickly thanks to the update option. So far, the company has named the hotels of the IHG Group as hotel partners - including hotels of the InterContinental, Regent, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn chains.
In addition to video content, AirPlay can also be used to play photos and music as well as presentations. For example, you can practice presenting PowerPoint or Keynote content in front of the TV in your hotel room in advance.
