Apple is now also offering a web version of its Podcasts app. According to Apple, Apple Podcasts can be accessed in any web browser in 175 countries and regions. If you want to try out the web app, you don't necessarily need an account: Even without a login, you can browse millions of free podcasts and the charts. Just go to podcasts.apple.com in your browser.

However, if you also want to access your media library, the "Next" queue or your podcast subscriptions, you need to sign in with your Apple account. In this case, there are also personalized recommendations and notifications about new episodes, the option to create new subscriptions or save playback progress - the range of functions is identical to that of the app.

Thanks to its responsive design, the web app should also adapt to different sized displays - from smartphones to desktop computers. However, trying out the web app on an Apple device proved difficult: during our tests, the Podcasts app for iOS or macOS always opened as well.

Apple only officially opened its map service Apple Maps on the browser at the end of July. However, the web version of the service is currently still in beta. Unlike the Podcasts app, however, the Maps app cannot be used in all browsers.

With iOS 18 and the other major operating system updates in the fall, Apple is planning further new functions for its Podcasts app. These include improvements to the search function and easier switching between the chapters of a podcast, provided the respective podcast provider offers this navigation aid. It will also be possible to share selected parts of a podcast directly in future.
