After months of testing, the Belgian Larian Studios have released the latest major patch for their successful role-playing game "Baldur's Gate 3". Update 8 is now available for PC, Xbox Series X/S, Playstation 5 and Mac – Thanks to the new cross-play function, the different systems can now play together for the first time.
In addition to cross-play, a photo mode, which fans had long wished for, is one of the biggest new features of Update 8. Larian has published the complete patch notes.
For veterans who have already played through "Baldur's Gate 3" once or several times, the new subclasses will be of particular interest. The latest patch comes with 12 of them, bringing with them new abilities, animations and visual effects.
Each of the subclasses belongs to one of the twelve main classes. Bards can specialize as the "School of Glamour" when creating their character, monks can indulge in alcohol and fight their way through goblin camps and necromancer fortresses as the "Drunken Master". The new paladin subclass "Oath of the Crown" even gets some new voicelines.
Larian concludes with "Baldur's Gate 3"
The release of Update 8 is nevertheless bittersweet for the community: Larian is very open about the fact that this is the last major patch for "Baldur's Gate 3". Since the launch, Larian has improved "Baldur's Gate 3" in many ways, for example with new animations and cutscenes.

However, a "Definitive Edition" in the style of Larian's previous games, which many fans had hoped for, was not released. In 'Divinity Original Sin 2', this Definitive Edition extensively expanded the final act, for example. Such major innovations are no longer to be expected in "Baldur's Gate 3". Larian has also stopped working on DLCs in order to devote itself to new projects. It is not yet known what these will be. However, Larian definitely does not want to develop a "Baldur's Gate 4".
