The hype surrounding "Severance" is slowly diminishing. Meanwhile, Apple is trying its hand with an advertising campaign for the streaming service TV+.

Season 2 of “Severance” [1], the most successful show on Apple TV+ to date, is available at [2] – and Apple is apparently looking for new arguments to attract new subscribers to the streaming service. In addition to new series such as “The Studio” [3] with hit potential, the iPhone manufacturer is now trying discounts. A new offer [4] significantly reduces the price of TV+, albeit only for three months.

Until April 24 and then for three months

As Apple announced on Wednesday, the subscription costs 4.99 euros per month for this period. Normally, you have to pay 9.99 euros. The discounted rate can be booked until April 24. If the subscription is running, you should make an entry in your calendar so that you can cancel if necessary when the normal rate applies again. The discount is only available to new subscribers; existing customers will continue to pay almost 10 euros per month.

Apple recently launched a major new German-language show: The hospital series “Krank Berlin” [5] is set in a pretty wild Kreuzberg. Previously, there was other international material, such as“Where's Wanda?” (also from Germany), “Midnight Family” and “You Would Do It Too” from Spain or “La Maison” from France. There are also more and more movies with a star cast, such as “Wolfs” [6] with George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

Apple TV+ was cheaper before

Apple is investing billions in TV [7]; it is still completely unclear whether this will actually pay off for the company. Apple's strategy remains to always focus on original content and occasionally offer curated old films, which then disappear from the program. The standard tariff is still moderate at 9.99 euros and TV+ does not have any advertising. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are significantly pricier, but also offer a larger repertoire.

TV+ was cheaper at the start than it is today. It once cost 4.99 euros, then 6.99 euros. In addition, you could use the service for free for a very long time if you had purchased an Apple product – from Mac to iPhone. Now these trial periods are few and far between or comparatively short. According to reports, Apple is also planning to put the brakes on the content budget (somewhat), especially as one episode of“Severance”", for example, is said to cost a whopping 20 million US dollars.
