"Severance": Apple's hit series gets a third season
Despite the fact that a lot of time passed between seasons 1 and 2, "Severance" is a hit. Season 3 will now follow more quickly, according to Apple.

It was to be expected, but now the confirmation is here: "Severance", Apple's currently most popular drama series with a retro and sci-fi vibe on its in-house streaming service TV+, is officially getting a third season. Apple made the announcement on Friday. Producer and director Ben Stiller had previously indicated that work on the scripts had already begun. Above all, it should not take as long this time until the next series starts: Three whole years had passed between seasons 1 and 2, partly due to the long strike in Hollywood.
Team and actors are delighted
"Everything seems to be fine at Lumon Industries. After the second season of "Severance" broke records as the most-watched series on Apple TV+, the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning global phenomenon has been renewed for a third season," writes Apple. "Severance" has already been described as the "best TV series of the last ten years" and a "cultural phenomenon", according to the company. Stiller and "Severance" creator and showrunner Dan Erickson also expressed their positive opinions. Lead actor Adam Scott said he "couldn't be more excited to continue working with Ben, Dan and our incredible cast and crew".
Severance" is about a group of employees at a powerful corporation whose work and private lives have been separated via a process called "Severance" – so they don't know their "innie" and "outie", at least that was the case in the first season. The second was about what happens when the two "characters" get to know each other – and further entanglements surrounding Lumon Industries. "Severance" aired the tenth and final episode of season 2 last week on Friday. It is still unclear when season 3 will be released – it could be next year, but it could also be as late as 2027.
Apple TV+ currently not profitable
In addition to Scott, "Severance" features an ensemble cast consisting of Britt Lower, Trammell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, John Turturro, Christopher Walken and Patricia Arquette. The series will be filmed primarily in New Jersey. The budget is said to be very high, reportedly 20 million US dollars per episode, making it one of the most expensive TV series ever.
There have recently been reports that Apple has spent billions on TV+ so far, but has not yet made any profits. The service is significantly smaller than competitors such as Netflix or Disney+. However, Apple is forecasting high losses for at least ten years – and is even said to have exceeded these marks, which is why CEO Tim Cook has called on his managers to cut back.
