Easier battery removal probably also for iPhone Pro models in future
Currently, only the standard iPhone 16 models have a new type of adhesive that speeds up battery replacement. Will the Pro models be next?

Apple has received an astonishing amount of praise for the repairability of its new iPhones this year: the company received 7 out of 10 points in the "Repairability Score" from the repair portal iFixIt. This applied to both the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Pro. Only the standard models offer a special feature: their battery is attached to the housing with a special adhesive that can be removed by applying voltage. According to a leaker, Apple is now planning to extend this technology to all iPhone 17 devices.
Four adhesive elements leaked
Corresponding components are said to already be in pre-production: A picture on X shows a total of four of the adhesive elements that, according to @MajinBuOfficial, are planned for the four 2025 iPhones. He also writes on a blog post that Apple is now planning the technology for all four iPhone 17 models. The leaker had correctly predicted the new titanium special color "Desert Sand" for the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, but has also been wrong in the past.
It should also be sufficient to apply a low electrical voltage to the adhesive elements of the iPhone 17 to loosen the adhesive – "without effort". In fact, the battery then virtually falls towards the repairer, which is a relief after many years of hard gluing or the use of pull tabs, which are quite laborious to remove.
Can the iPhone 17 Air still be repaired?
The iPhone 17 will probably be released in September 2025. Apple is reportedly planning four variants again, with an "iPhone 17 Air" with a particularly thin casing instead of the iPhone 17 Plus. It would be commendable if this could also be repaired relatively easily.
iFixIt now also has suitable hardware ready to remove batteries with a conventional USB-C power supply –, but otherwise a 9-volt block battery with alligator clips will also suffice. Of course, there is little change to the still tedious process of opening the iPhone, but at least Apple now publishes detailed repair instructions for this, this year even very close to the release of the iPhone 16. Apple naturally also has its own battery removal instructions on its website.
