Sony and Sucker Punch presented the action game "Ghost of Yotei" at a Playstation event on Wednesday night. It is a sequel to the successful samurai game "Ghost of Tsushima", which was released for Playstation 4 in 2020.

However, "Ghost of Yotei" does not directly continue the story of its predecessor: Jin Sakai is replaced by a new protagonist named Atsu. "Ghost of Yotei" is not set on the island of Tsushima, but on Mount Yōtei-zan on the present-day island of Hokkaidō. And some time has also passed since part 1: "Ghost of Yotei" is set in 1603, over 300 years after the events of "Tushima".

Among other things, this allows the developers to incorporate primitive firearms into their game. In the first trailer for the game, for example, you can see Atsu firing a shotgun. Apart from that, the video is still light on details about the story and gameplay. It consists largely of cobbled-together cutscenes and short gameplay sections.

The trailer does not yet provide a detailed look at the combat system, the playful highlight of the predecessor. In a blog entry, Sony emphasizes that "Ghost of Yotei" is the first title from Sucker Punch to be developed exclusively for the Playstation 5. Part 1 was released on the PS4 before being ported to the PS5 a year later.

"We have huge vistas that allow for sweeping views of the environment, an all-new sky with twinkling stars and auroras, even more believable movement of wind on grass and vegetation, and more improvements that we'll be introducing in the future," Sucker Punch wrote in a blog post.

After some delay, a PC port of the samurai game finally followed this year. Part 2 is also likely to reach the PC sooner or later –, as Sony has been doing for several years. However, it is unclear exactly when this will be the case. Experience shows that PC fans have to wait at least two years for the port. The PS5 version is due to be launched in 2025.
