GitLab Duo Enterprise: The new AI partner for development teams

GitLab has announced the general availability of GitLab Duo Enterprise, a toolbox equipped with artificial intelligence-based tools designed to accompany and support the software development lifecycle. According to the announcement, the purpose of this toolbox is to increase developer productivity, improve security, facilitate team collaboration and accelerate DevSecOps processes.
GitLab Duo Enterprise is a platform that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to optimize the development process. From code creation and security review to debugging and collaboration, GitLab Duo Enterprise offers a variety of features to optimize the efficiency and quality of software development.
Support software development processes
GitLab Duo Enterprise introduces functions that support developers when writing code. For example, the platform offers code suggestions in 25 programming languages, provides explanations and helps with refactoring using AI. The focus of the innovations is on saving time when programming and increasing code quality.
Teams can also access AI-controlled summaries of discussions and merge requests. Root Cause Analysis automatically analyzes logs and offers suggested solutions, which can obviously have an impact on the speed of bug fixing. GitLab Duo Enterprise identifies and fixes security vulnerabilities using artificial intelligence and offers automatic solution suggestions. This is intended to increase application security.
AI Impact Dashboard
Another highlight according to the blog post is the AI Impact Dashboard, which provides metrics for evaluating the benefits of AI options and thus enables a well-founded ROI (return on investment) analysis. It provides a month-by-month view to compare AI usage trends with software development lifecycle (SDLC) metrics such as deployment frequency, cycle time or security vulnerabilities. This should allow conclusions to be drawn about how AI usage affects productivity. The feature was already introduced with GitLab 17.
