Google Docs: Import and export Markdown
Google introduced the first Markdown functions in Docs back in 2022. Now the important import and export functions are following.

Google Docs is expanding the Markdown function: according to the announcement, users have been asking for the four new features. Firstly, Markdown content can be automatically converted to Docs format when it is pasted from the clipboard. Users can also receive content copied from Docs into its format as Markdown.
Furthermore, Docs documents can be exported as Markdown via the download function or imported from Markdown Drive as a Docs document. As with the introduction of Markdown support in 2022, Google is primarily targeting developers and technical writers with this step. Although they should not necessarily work in Markdown in Docs, they often need the format to share their content with other users and tools.
Immediately and for all users
Administrators do not have to activate the new market functions manually – import and export are automatically activated for all users. However, copying as Markdown and pasting from Markdown are deactivated by default; users can activate both themselves in the settings if required. Users will receive the new functions within the next two weeks and they will appear for all licenses.
Previously, users could only mark up formatting via Markdown; Google had not expanded support since its introduction in 2022. All information on the changes can be found in the announcement.
