"Gothic 1 Remake": THQ Nordic shows new gameplay trailer
The development of the remake of "Gothic 1" is apparently progressing well. Publisher THQ Nordic has now released a new gameplay trailer.

THQ Nordic has released a new gameplay trailer for the remake of "Gothic", which introduces the story and gameplay systems. It includes many gameplay scenes – such as a brief look at the combat system, climbing and dialog.

However, there is still no release date. Publisher THQ Nordic merely promises in the video that it will "soon" be possible to immerse yourself in the world of "Gothic". The new edition of the cult role-playing game is to be released for PC, Xbox Series X/S and Playstation 5.
In the video, the "Gothic" remake makes a surprisingly solid impression: despite Unreal Engine 5, the quality of the animations and graphics are not at blockbuster level, but still look very decent overall and exude the unorthodox "Gothic" charm.
However, developer Alkimia Interactive still has to prove many of its promises: In the video, for example, the team promises a "complex life simulation" and "unimagined freedom" when exploring the game world. These are bold announcements for a studio that has yet to bring a video game to market - Alkimia was founded in Barcelona specifically for the development of the "Gothic" remake.
Playable demo paved the way for development
The remake of the cult role-playing game "Gothic" has a rather curious development history: in 2019, publisher THQ Nordic tested interest in the game by releasing a playable demo on Steam. After playing through this demo, players were asked to fill out a questionnaire, based on which the future of the project was assessed. According to THQ Nordic, 95 percent of respondents were in favor of continuing the development of the new edition. In 2020, THQ Nordic confirmed that the remake of "Gothic" will indeed go into full development.
The classic role-playing game "Gothic" was published by Piranha Bytes in 2001. Although Piranha Bytes also belonged to THQ Nordic and thus the Embracer Group for a long time, the German studio was not commissioned to develop the remake. Instead, Piranha Bytes developed a new "Elex" part. Piranha Bytes is now dead as a studio and its employees have been made redundant. The new "Elex" part will therefore probably not come onto the market.
