Installing Windows 11 on old hardware could be possible after all, according to a rumor last week. Microsoft denies this.

Installing Windows 11 on hardware that is not actually supported? The fact that Microsoft might allow this after all caused an uproar last week. However, Microsoft has now clearly denied this.
On Tuesday last week, the US press reported that Microsoft might allow or at least tolerate the installation of Windows 11 on old, incompatible PCs. This would have meant a U-turn in Microsoft's product policy. However, the situation was anything but clear and unambiguous.
Microsoft has not changed anything
At the request of heise online, Microsoft has now taken a stand. "We have updated our support page to clarify what purpose the page serves and that the requirements have not changed," explains a spokesperson for the company.

In fact, there is now an update box on the support page in question that makes this clear.

The Redmond company now writes there: "[...] The intention behind this support page is to list what customers need to consider if they install Windows 11 on devices that do not meet the Windows 11 system requirements, contrary to Microsoft's recommendation. If you have installed Windows 11 on a device that does not meet the Windows 11 system requirements, Microsoft recommends switching back to Windows 10 immediately." It goes on to say: "The Windows 11 minimum requirements remain unchanged and can be found in the Windows 11 specifications, features and computer requirements support article."
The rumors that Microsoft might have changed something about this were sparked by a sentence added in November: "By selecting Accept, you acknowledge that you have read and understand this statement." However, this did not appear anywhere else. Our tests on various systems also did not show the implied "Accept" button, which would allow installation despite the error message that the system did not meet the requirements. Microsoft has now clarified that this will not happen either.
