The Korean consumer electronics group Samsung Electronics wants to accelerate the development of robots, especially humanoid robots. To this end, the Group has increased its stake in the Korean robotics company Rainbow Robotics to 35 percent. Samsung did not provide specific details of the financial outlay in a statement. Samsung previously held a 14.7 percent stake in the company, which it had acquired in 2023 for 86.8 billion won, around 57 million euros.
Specifically, the aim of strengthening Samsung's commitment to robotics is to avoid being left behind in the robotics market. Samsung plans to contribute its own expertise in the fields of AI and software technology in order to accelerate the development of "intelligent advanced humanoids".
Samsung also intends to advance the development of industrial robots. These include the collaborative robots from Rainbow Robotics as well as the company's mobile two-arm manipulator and autonomous mobile robots. The aim is to use artificial intelligence (AI) to enable them to learn independently during their work in order to improve themselves.

Samsung also wants to make changes to its corporate structure. A synergy advisory board is to be set up in the future. Samsung intends to use it to develop future robotics technologies and business strategies. Market demand is to be analyzed and evaluated in advance.
A Future Robotics Office will provide support and focus on the development of future robots, including humanoid robots. Samsung is obviously placing a lot of faith in the cooperation with Rainbow Robotics, as Samsung sees the robotics field as an important growth driver for the Group and is including Rainbow Robotics as a subsidiary in its own consolidated financial statements.
Rainbow Robotics was founded in 2011 by scientists from the Humanoid Robot Research Center of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST).
