The first season of “Andor” is generally regarded as the best thing Disney has achieved with its expensive “Star Wars” brand to date. Season 2 now has a first trailer and a release date: Starting on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, it will be revolutionized again – In total, the season is set to air in 12 episodes.

The trailer shows the return of the cast from season 1: Diego Luna once again plays the eponymous Cassian Andor, who more or less reluctantly joined the burgeoning rebel faction in season 1. The uprising against the Empire is led by Stellan SkarsgĂĄrd's Luthen Rael and Senator Mon Mothma, played by Genevieve O'Reilly.

By “Star Wars” standards, season 1 of “Andor” was decidedly brutal and adult. The trailer for season 2 is a battle-hardened look with a musical backdrop of Steve Earle's “The Revolution Starts Now”. It provides a first glimpse of the Death Star, which Andor's team will play a major role in destroying with Luke Skywalker – This story is told in the 2016 film “Rogue One”, in which Cassian Andor's character first appeared. The Disney+ series tells the prequel to the movie.
Release in four blocks
Specifically, season 2 takes place five years before the events of “Rogue One,” Disney announced. The series will be released in four blocks, each comprising three episodes and each covering one year, according to Rolling Stone. This means that the story from the second season will cover a total of four years. There would therefore theoretically be enough time for a third season, showing the fifth year up to “Rogue One” – but this has not been confirmed.
The release in episode bundles means that three episodes of the new “Andor” season will be shown directly on April 22. The next three will follow a week later on April 29, then on May 6. Finally, the final three episodes will be shown on May 13. The second “Andor” season will be released exclusively on the Disney+ streaming service.
