Vision Pro: More immersive content from Apple
8K at 180 degrees with 3D audio: Apple offers high video quality for its headset. There is still a lack of content - now you can deliver it yourself.

One of the exciting features of Apple's expensive Vision Pro headset is the ability to watch 8K videos in 180-degree 3D format with spatial audio. Apple has created its own new format called Apple Immersive Video (AIV) for this purpose. At the moment, it is primarily the company itself that is providing content for this. With new technical developments such as specialized cameras from Blackmagic Design, this is likely to change soon. The iPhone manufacturer has now announced that the range of AIV content will be expanded.
Format uses the possibilities of Vision Pro
In the coming months, new short series, films and concert recordings will be available free of charge via Apple's TV app under visionOS. A TV+ subscription is not necessary. Due to the high data rate, a sufficiently fast internet connection is required. The quality of AIV is significantly higher than that of 3D films from Hollywood studios, as the resolution is lower and the films are rarely offered in 180-degree format.
AIV is therefore well suited to demonstrating what the Vision Pro can achieve thanks to fast Apple M2 graphics cores and the two 4K micro OLED displays, as the productions are quite impressive. However, Apple's material is still quite short - apparently due to the production effort required - and there are no longer films to date.
Which shows are coming soon
Apple has announced the new series "Boudless" and "Elevated". Both are travel and nature shows respectively. In the first episode of "Boundless", you fly over the landscape of Cappadocia in a hot air balloon, while "Elevated" takes you over natural wonders in Hawaii. The second episode of the animal documentary "Wild Life" has also been announced, this time about elephant keepers. "Submerged", on the other hand, is the first AIV short film as a drama. It was created by Oscar winner Edward Berger ("Nothing New in the West") and is set in a submarine.
Apple also announced an immersive short film for the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend and a concert film featuring The Weeknd. A surf film is also to be shot in the summer as part of "Red Bull Big Wave Surfing". The first "Boundless" episode can already be seen in the USA, but with a German app store account it will not be available until the fall - just like most of the other new AIV content.
