The Wahl-O-Mat from the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) is a classic. The interactive decision-making aid is based on an idea by the Dutch organization ProDemos. Each time before important political elections, the website confronts visitors with a series of statements taken from the programs of the various parties running in the election. These are topics with potential for conflict. Those seeking advice can choose between agreeing, disagreeing or taking a neutral stance; individual statements can be skipped.
At the beginning of May, the bpb published an Wahl-O-Mat version for the 2024 European elections. It deals with sea rescue in the Mediterranean, possible EU membership for Ukraine, organic farming, national currencies instead of the euro and 34 other current topics. Once you have clicked through everything, you can add extra emphasis to individual statements by double-checking them. After the visitor has marked all the parties that should appear in the evaluation, a ranking of the parties whose election program most closely matches their own views appears. This result can be explained in detail by calling up the exact positions of the parties for individual statements.
