Windows 11: Support for some builds ends in 90 days
Microsoft reminds you of the end of support for some Windows 11 builds. Unmanaged devices will automatically receive a version update.

Microsoft will discontinue support for some Windows 11 builds in three months. The manufacturer is now reminding users of this. Unmanaged computers should receive an automatic version update to a supported build in good time.
In the Windows Message Center, Microsoft explains that Windows 11 21H2 in the Enterprise, Education and IoT Enterprise editions and Windows 11 22H2 in the Home and Pro dialects will be provided with security and feature updates for the last time on October 8, 2024. After the October Patchday, these Windows editions will no longer receive security updates and update previews that would protect them from security threats.
Automatic feature updates should mitigate the impact
Windows 11 business devices that are not managed by an IT department will receive automatic feature updates via Windows Update. These are to be installed shortly before the end of service. The update to Windows 11 23H2 will keep the devices in support so that they continue to receive the monthly updates that are critical to their security and the "health of the ecosystem", the company explains.
Microsoft lists the end of support for the various Windows 11 builds and versions on a separate website. Anyone who does not want to be surprised by automatic function updates should therefore migrate the older Windows 11 builds to the newer versions themselves if necessary.
Although the end of support for Windows 11 builds means work for IT departments, it is not as serious as the planned end of support for Windows 10 in October 2025. As Windows 11 does not run on many older hardware, the fear is that this will result in a large mountain of electronic waste from PCs that are actually still usable.
