iOS 18.1: These innovations are coming
Apple's first major iOS 18 update is due to be released in October. The list of expected innovations is surprisingly long. These are the plans.

After iOS 18 comes iOS 18.1 – if there isn't a bug fix update iOS 18.0.1 first: Apple is currently working intensively on the first major update of the new iPhone operating system. This time, the beta phase had already begun before the release of iOS 18.0, as iOS 18.1 is to include Apple Intelligence for the first time. This is not the only new feature planned for October. Record phone calls, rebuild control center, selfies with camera control
For the first time, iOS 18.1 will make it possible to record phone calls directly on the device. In future, the operating system will display a record button as soon as the call is in progress. The iPhone automatically informs the caller by voice message that the recording has started. This then ends up in the Notes app. Automatic transcripts are also planned, although it is not yet clear whether this will also be in German – Apple usually takes a little longer here.
The Control Center will be even easier to control in the future. If you make a mistake during configuration, you can now switch back to the standard view with a single click (reset). The camera control built into all four iPhone 16 models brings a new selfie function with iOS 18.1, which allows you to take self-portraits without touching the screen. All you have to do is press the button and swipe.
Many functions in Apple Intelligence – but not for Europe
iOS 18.1 also brings central Apple Intelligence functions to the iPhone for the first time. These include the so-called Writing Tools for generating, correcting and rephrasing texts, summarizing emails and notifications, answering questions about Apple products using AI and smart replies to emails and messages. The Photos app can create movies from photos based on prompts and remove unwanted objects from images. New focus modes only let important messages through thanks to AI. The AI can also summarize audio transcripts.
All of these features will not be available in the EU –, at least as things currently stand. In addition, US English will initially be the only language supported, with more to follow next year. Siri will have a new design and interact (slightly) better (among other things, you can interrupt the voice assistant and restart sentences), but the "real" new Siri will not arrive until later. The same applies to the ChatGPT integration. iOS 18.1 could be released in the second half of the month towards the end of October – - at least that was the case with iOS 17.1.
