IFA 2015: Intel bringt 49 weitere Skylake-Prozessoren
Auf der IFA kündigt Intel 28 Mobilprozessoren und 21 Desktop-CPUs der Skylake-Generation an, zusätzlich zu den bereits vorgestellten Übertakter-Typen Core i7-6700K und Core i5-6600K. Darunter sind auch Xeons für mobile Workstations.
Großer Generationswechsel bei Intel: Die beiden Skylake-S-Prozessoren Core i7-6700K und Core i5-6600K für Mainboards mit LGA1151-Fassung waren nur die Vorhut. Nun folgen 21 weitere LGA1151-Prozessoren für Desktop-PCs, die passenden Chipsätze H170, B150, Q170, Q150 und H110 sowie 28 Prozessoren für Mobilrechner, vom Core m für lüfterlose Flachmänner bis zum Quad-Core-Xeon E3-1535M v5 mit dem Chipsatz C236M für mobile Workstations mit dem RAM-Fehlerschutz ECC.
Die Mobil-Xeons sind komplett neu: Bisher mussten Intels Mobilprozessoren auf ECC-RAM verzichten. Neu sind aber auch die bereits auf dem IDF beschriebenen Stromsparfunktionen Speed Shift und Duty Cycling sowie der Stromsparmodus Disconnected Standby.

Ansonsten verteilen sich auch die Skylake-Prozessoren auf die schon von Haswell (Core i-4000) und Broadwell (Core i-5000) bekannten Unterfamilien:
- Skylake-S mit 91, 65 oder 35 Watt Thermal Design Power (TDP) für LGA1151-Mainboards,
- Skylake-H mit 45 Watt TDP für kräftige Notebooks, oft mit zusätzlichem Grafikchip,
- Skylake-U mit 15 oder 28 Watt TDP für dünne Notebooks
- Skylake-Y alias Core m mit 4,5 Watt TDP für lüfterlose Notebooks, Tablets und Hybride
Mäßig mehr Rechenleistung
Nach den Messungen der c't am Core i7-6700K bringt Skylake im Vergleich zu Haswell und Broadwell bei gleicher Taktfrequenz nur moderate Mehrleistung. Mancher Code läuft aber auch spürbar schneller, weil Intel einige Feinheiten deutlich überarbeitet hat. Vor allem arbeitet Skylake unter Last sparsamer und kann dadurch potenziell höhere Turbo-Stufen länger halten. Bei schwacher Kühlung, vor allem beim Core m, verspricht das höhere Performance in der Praxis – aber das können erst Tests an fertigen Notebooks zeigen.
In Details neu
Erstmals unterstützen auch die von den Core-i-Typen abgeleiteten Pentium- und Celeron-Prozessoren die AES-NI-Kryptobefehle sowie die Virtualisierungsfunktion VT-d. Letztere zielt auf die Sicherheitsfunktion Device Guard mit "Virtualization-based Security" von Windows 10 Enterprise. Auch einige der erwähnten Stromsparfunktionen und der HEVC-Decoder sind zunächst vor allem mit Windows 10 nutzbar.
Erstmals gibt es auch einen übertaktbaren "K"-Mobilprozessor (Core i7-6820HK) und mobile Quads ohne Hyper-Threading (Core i5-6440HQ/-6300HQ).
Die "HD Graphics" zählt Intel bei Skylake zur neunten GPU-Generation (Gen 9), die Bezeichnungen enthalten nun dreistellige Zahlen aus dem 500er-Bereich. Laut Intel wird DirectX 12 im Feature-Level 11.2 unterstützt.
Neu sind auch die 15-Watt-Typen mit Iris-540-Grafik; [Update:] diese GT3-GPU besitzt 48 Execution Units und 64 MByte eDRAM-Pufferspeicher. Das gilt auch für die Iris 550 der höher taktenden 28-Watt-Typen.[/Update]

Noch mehr Skylakes
Noch nicht vorgestellt hat Intel die Iris-Pro-Versionen [Update:] mit 128 MByte eDRAM [/Update]. Ebenfalls nicht erwähnt wurden Skylake-Xeons für kleine Server mit nur einer CPU, also der Xeon E3-1200 v5, der mit dem Chipsatz C230 erwartet wird. Nach Gerüchten sollen sich auch vPro-Systeme mit AMT-Fernwartung etwas verzögern, also Bürocomputer mit Q170-Chipsatz.
Skylake-EP-Xeons mit der Befehlssatzerweiterung AVX512 für Zwei- und Vier-Sockel-Server werden erst 2016 erwartet.
