M4 sticker leak: Possibly MacBook Pro with at least 16 GB

For years, Apple has been stingy when it comes to the RAM configuration of its Macs. Now this could change with the MacBook Pro M4 – at least that's the hope.

Ahead of Apple's (as yet unannounced) October event, where new Macs are expected, a photo has surfaced purporting to show the outer packaging of a new MacBook Pro M4. The "unconfirmed" image was spread by the well-known X leaker @ShrimpApplePro, who has been correct several times in the past. It is difficult to determine whether the image is genuine or a fake – but the details are certainly interesting.

The photo shows the sticker of a "14-inch MacBook Pro" with M4 chip, 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD. This would probably be the standard model, as the devices with more RAM and a larger SSD usually contain these values in small letters on another part of the box. The other areas of the recording appear legitimate, except the fact that an "Apple ID" is still mentioned instead of the new "Apple Account", which Apple itself did in the specifications of the iPhone 16 Pro before it was corrected.

There is also a new QR code on the packaging for the iPhone 16. However, it is more than easy to falsify such an image – also because it is comparatively blurred. Another "red flag" is that images of the front view of the packaging have also surfaced, showing the current MacBook Pro wallpaper, which Apple will certainly change.

If the information is really correct, Apple would fulfill some user wishes for the standard model. The M4 SoC has been long awaited, but 16 GB of RAM is still not standard; users currently have to live with 8 GB. An additional Thunderbolt 4 port is also listed –, which would mean three instead of just two for the standard model.

Finally, it appears that the color "Space Black" could be part of the entry-level models for the first time. This in turn is confusing because Apple has only reserved this special color for the more expensive variants –, at least until now. However, these may receive a new special color. All in all, these innovations would be desirable. We will probably only find out whether they are true in mid to late October – when Apple's next Mac event is expected.
