Reddit will flow into ChatGPT and other OpenAI products in the future
OpenAI and Reddit want to work together. The aim is to incorporate content from the Reddit community into the GPT chatbot and other products in the future.
OpenAI and Reddit enter into a partnership. Reddit's content will feed the chatbot ChatGPT and other OpenAI products in the future. This was announced by both companies on Thursday.
Real-time access to data API
"Reddit is a uniquely large and vibrant community that has long been an important place for discussion on the internet," Reddit's statement reads. It is important to keep the internet open and that includes making Reddit content accessible." Reddit can also improve the user experience for everyone by using LLMs (Large Language Models), ML (Machine Learning) and AI (Artificial Intelligence)."
OpenAI will integrate Reddit content into ChatGPT and other products to help users discover and interact with Reddit communities. To achieve this, OpenAI would access Reddit's data API, from which the company could draw structured and exclusive content in real time. "This will enable OpenAI's AI tools to better understand and visualize Reddit content, especially on trending topics," the company continues.
Reddit receives additional functions
Conversely, OpenAI enables Redditors and moderators to use new AI-supported functions. Reddit is building on OpenAI's platform of AI models to develop further. At the same time, the two companies will become advertising partners.
"Reddit believes that privacy is a right, and as part of this, Reddit recently published its Public Content Policy to help communities, developers and researchers better understand how Reddit handles access to public content and user privacy," the statement continues. The partnership does not change the terms of the Data API or the terms for developers that the Data API may not be used commercially without Reddit's consent. API access will remain free of charge for non-commercial use within the published terms.
OpenAI boss holds shares in Reddit
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is a Reddit shareholder. "The partnership was led by OpenAI's COO and approved by the independent Board of Directors," the company announced. A week ago, there was still displeasure in the Reddit community due to a copyright complaint. The OpenAI logo was posted as a profile picture on a Subreddit via ChatGPT.
Previously, a partnership between Reddit and Google to train AI with content from the community had already been discussed. OpenAI also has numerous partnerships for AI training with content created by users of other platforms.
