On October 10, 1994, Håkon Wium Lie published the first proposal for “Cascading HTML style sheets”. Since then, CSS has been one of the technical foundations for the web. A good occasion to celebrate CSS in style! In this talk Håkon will examine some of the key moments in the history of CSS and the web - and have a short glimpse into the future of CSS.

CSS will also be the topic of some other talks at c’t <webdev>. Markus Timtner will show you how CSS allows you to create complex layout systems with minimal and accessible markup. Sascha Lehmann will introduce the new View Transition API and CSS’ Scroll-Driven Animations. They make complex animations possible in hybrid apps for example container transforms. And Julia Miocene will demonstrate you how CSS allows us to draw and animate a short cartoon.

The almost 40 talks of the two-days conference with three tracks will cover the whole bandwidth of topics in fronend development: Accessibility, Testing, JavaScript (-Frameworks), Security and more. Take a look at the agenda to get an overview.

The c't 2024 conference will be held from November 13 to 14 in Cologne. On the day before, November 12, there will be three full-day workshops where you can deepen your knowledge on individual topics. Sebastian Springer will show in his Workshop how to build a complete application with next.js. Nils Röhrig will give you an overview on full stack development with Svelte & SvelteKit. And Marco Emrich and Sebastian Rose will give you an overview on different „schools“ of test-driven development and which approach is best suited in which context.

A workshop ticket costs 879 Euros. Tickets for the conference cost 849 Euros, full conference passes with one additional workshop pass cost 1.649 Euros. Here are more information.
