From calm and stormy seas: the pictures of the week
Some waters are rather deep and unfathomable, while others are bright and clear. This week's pictures are as varied as the water itself.

The sound of rushing water soothes many people, but a body of water can also be loud and threatening. We find water on our planet in a wide variety of shapes, colors and environments, and the photographers in our gallery have captured some particularly beautiful examples.
Kriebstein Castle
(Image:Â dave-derbis)
The radiant blue of the Zschopau river surrounds Kriebstein Castle, making the whole area shine. Dave-derbis uses the long exposure to make the water look like it has been painted. The high-contrast colors also make the overall picture look like something out of a storybook.
Water lilies II
(Image:Â camera66)
Two water lilies float calmly on the surface of the water in a pond on a summer's day. Camera66 (alias Volker Lampe) photographs the spectacle "from above", so that no horizon is visible as a straight line, making the final image reminiscent of a Monet painting. To bring the artist's lightness into the picture, camera66 breathes lightly on the lens to fog it up.

Great White Egret
(Image:Â Pham Nuwem)
The scene with the great egret appears surreal, its brilliant white penetrating the deep darkness. Pham Nuwem (alias Stefan Weber) can't help but immediately press the shutter release at this sight. It is particularly important to him that the reflection is captured in its entirety, especially as there is no wind at that moment. "This gives the picture a dynamic component that would have been missing without the slightly distorted reflection."
Stage
(Image:Â Lightpix84)
The long exposure transforms the water and the waves in the groyne into a literal sea of clouds and makes the stones look as if they are floating – a real natural spectacle that is fantastically captured by Lightpix84.
out to sea
(Image:Â Bernd Seibel)
The sea at Finistère, the westernmost tip of Brittany, doesn't seem quite so cozy. The boat sways back and forth menacingly and yet daringly heads out to sea. The true form of this force of nature is shown openly here with the help of Bernd Seibel's photograph and appears even more dangerous thanks to the desaturated colors.
Blue
(Image:Â JensonR)
A fence stretches endlessly into the distance, the water sparkles a mystical blue. Yet a reflection of reality. This picture by JensonR is reality. I wonder what lies at the end of the horizon? We can only dream of it.
Cloudburst
(Image:Â Martin Ruopp)
This picture by Martin Ruopp reminds us that torrential rivers exist alongside all the calm states of mind of water. Powerful, loud and unstoppable. The power of the water is impressively depicted and resembles a cloudburst.
