Canadian hobbyist and Youtuber Dave Niewinski from Dave's Armoury has converted a humanoid Unitree H1 robot into a Terminator T-800 for Halloween – but without making the robot look like Arnold Schwarzenegger, who played him in the 1980s film "The Terminator". Niewinski concentrated on converting the robot into the skeleton of the T-800.
The Unitree H1 robot provides a good basis for converting it into a T-800. It is around 1.8 m tall, weighs 47 kg and can move autonomously and remotely like a human thanks to its wide range of sensors and AI technology.
Customized cladding parts from the 3D printer
To give the robot the appearance of a T-800 skeleton, Niewinski took the parts of an existing 3D model of a Terminator, which he scaled up and adapted accordingly. Beforehand, he scanned the H1 with the Polycam app to create an exact 3D image of the H1 robot. This enabled Niewinski to adapt the cladding parts to the H1's body as precisely as possible. He used the 3D modeling software Blender to design the cladding parts. Niewinski then printed out the designed parts using the 3D printer.

The hobbyist glued larger plastic parts together. He painted all the trim parts silver. Niewinski also built LEDs into the newly created skull of the "T-800" to illuminate the iconic eyes in red.
However, everything did not quite work out as Niewinski had imagined. For example, the covering on the feet kept falling off while walking until the hobbyist gave up in frustration and simply left it off.

However, the Halloween stunt would certainly not have worked without sponsorship, as the Unitree H1 robot costs the manufacturer around 16,000 US dollars. Niewinski now has even more plans for the "T-800". He wants to make the head, which is actually immobile, rotatable in order to make the Terminator more "lifelike".
