The Polish start-up Clone Robotics, which specializes in biomimetic robotics, has developed a humanoid robot torso that can move almost lifelike with artificial muscles and bones. The first attempts at movement can be seen in a video, although they are still a little choppy.

Clone Robotics does not reveal much about the robot torso. Its basic structure consists of a fixed spinal column attached to a human-like pelvis. Massive ribs are attached to the spine. The robot also has a head. The head and shoulders are covered with a white, rubber-like skin. The robot also has two human-like arms with corresponding hands.

The robot's artificial muscles are powered by a system of battery-operated pumps and valves. The pumps move water from a flexible container through the torso via hoses. In doing so, they generate the necessary pressure to flex the artificial muscles and stretch the associated tendons. This allows natural-looking movements of the head, arms and hands to be realized.

The movements, especially of the arms, are still somewhat jerky and therefore bumpy. However, Clone Robotics promises that this will soon change. "Training of bimanual manipulation is underway," writes the company.

It is currently unclear whether Clone Robotics plans to build a complete humanoid robot on this basis. Clone Robotics already presented its "Clone Hand" three years ago. The hand can be moved in a human-like manner. Particularly impressive is the mobility of the thumb, which comes close to human movement. The hand is also covered in a rubber-like material. Clone Robotics wants to make it appear as human-like as possible.
