Disney is working on a new film trilogy in the "Star Wars" universe. This is reported by the industry magazine Hollywood Reporter. The film series is to be produced by Simon Kinberg, who is known for "The Martian" and "Deadpool", among others.
The trilogy is not to be a classic "Star Wars" trilogy, reports Hollywood Reporter. In other words, the Skywalker saga will not be continued, instead other characters will take on the leading roles and tell a new story. Kinberg has already worked with Dave Filoni on the "Star Wars" series "Rebels" and was a consultant on Episode 7, reports Hollywood Reporter.
Disney is working on several "Star Wars" contents in parallel. Among other things, a spin-off film is planned for the series "The Mandalorian ", which is due to be released in cinemas in 2026. The film will be called "The Mandalorian & Grogu". It will be directed by Jon Favreau, who, alongside Dave Filoni, is considered one of the creators of these 'Star Wars' characters and worked as a screenwriter, director and producer for the TV series. Two more "Star Wars" films are also in the works, but have not yet been named.

Kinberg is also working on "Star Trek"
Kinberg's trilogy is still in early development, reports the industry magazine Variety. It is still unclear when production will begin. Variety also emphasizes that Disney has also worked on projects with other well-known producers such as Kevin Feige and "Game of Thrones" creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss before these projects were scrapped.
Simon Kinberg is an interesting choice as a producer because he is also currently working on "Star Trek": he is producing a new film that will tell the prequel to the main timeline in the "Star Trek" film cosmos.
