Epic Games is preparing the return of the original Battle Royale mode of "Fortnite": "Fortnite OG" is set to become playable on December 6, writes developer Epic in a post on the X platform. In it, Epic also writes that the game mode is "here to stay".
"Fortnite OG" was already playable as a temporary event last November. Now the game mode is apparently set to become a permanent part of the "Fortnite" cosmos. "Fortnite OG" recreates the battle royale shooter as it was playable at its beginnings in 2018: with the old game map and the old loot.
"Fortnite" was launched in 2017 with the name extension "Save the World". The original game mode combined survival elements with tower defense gameplay. In 2018, "Fortnite" then celebrated great success with the release of the Battle Royale game mode. This game mode has evolved massively in recent years and changed from season to season. With "Fortnite OG", it returns in its original version from 2018.
The business of nostalgia
While "Fortnite OG" plays at the 2018 level in terms of gameplay and content, the game mode benefits from the technical improvements to Unreal Engine 5 that Epic Games has since implemented. These include realistic lighting via Lumen.

"Fortnite is not the only game to blatantly indulge in gaming nostalgia: Just a few days ago, Blizzard announced "Overwatch Classic". Several events are planned in which players can replay the most important milestones in the game's development history. And "World of Warcraft" was already old enough in 2019 that it was worth running the online role-playing game in parallel with "WoW Classic", where players can relive the early version 1.12.
