Video editing: Apple's Final Cut Pro 11 relies on AI and Spatial Video
Apple is expanding its professional applications, including Logic Pro as well as Final Cut. The new functions range from AI tools to the Quantec Room Simulator.

After more than 10 years, Final Cut Pro is making its next major version leap, with Final Cut Pro X being followed by version 11. The main new features are fresh AI tools and support for editing spatial or stereoscopic videos (Spatial Videos). A new feature is the magnetic selection tool "Magnetic Mask", which is intended to enable more flexible adjustment of certain objects in videos. Another AI function automates the creation of subtitles in the timeline by transcribing the audio track. An Apple language model is used for this, the company announced late on Wednesday.
Spatial videos and iPad features
In addition, Final Cut is now able to edit spatial videos and make color corrections as well as add effects and titles. The stereoscopic recordings can be output separately on the Mac according to the recording angle and exported for playback on the Vision Pro. In addition to the latest iPhones and the Vision Pro itself, spatial videos can soon also be created with the Canon EOS-R7 – A first lens for this will be available shortly. Apple also refers to the upcoming ultra-wide screen mode of the virtual Mac display in Vision Pro.

Apple has also added to the iPad version of Final Cut, where users will be able to make AI-supported lighting and color enhancements and use new pencil tools to insert animations with the Apple Pencil. Final Cut Camera is also receiving an update and now supports HEVC videos with Log as well as a new LUT preview (with Apple Log LUT). It also supports the recording of 4K videos at 120 fps on the iPhone 16 Pro.

The biggest innovation in Logic Pro are reverb effects with the Quantec Room Simulator: The plug-in is based on the original circuit diagrams and algorithms of the Quantec founder, Apple announced.
Subscription for iPads, one-off purchase for Macs
Final Cut Pro 11 can still be installed on macOS 14, but functions such as transcribing require the new macOS 15. Some features require a Mac with an Apple chip, the manufacturer notes. Support for macOS 13 ends with the update.
The business model will not change: the Mac version is available as a one-off purchase for 350 euros, but the update to version 11 is free for existing customers. Apple will continue to offer the iPad version as a subscription for 5 euros per month or just under 50 euros per year. Logic Pro for the Mac still costs 230 euros, and the update is also free here. The iPad app is also only available as a subscription at the same price as Final Cut.
