Four-legged robot dog Lynx whizzes through difficult terrain on wheels
Lynx the robot dog should be able to move around quickly even on rough terrain. This works better with wheels than just legs.
Robotic dog Lynx can also drive down bumpy slopes on two wheels.

The four-legged robot dog Lynx from Chinese robotics company Deep Robotics moves forward on wheels, which normally restricts its locomotion to largely smooth surfaces. However, this also makes the robot significantly faster than walking on legs alone. However, Deep Robotics allows Lynx to travel at high speeds across terrain or climb inclines with locked wheels.
The Lynx robot dog is a completely in-house development by Deep Robotics. It is therefore not based on a robotic dog from another company that has been taught the new movement skills using adapted software. The robotics company has experience with robot dogs. Deep Robotics already offers two different versions, X20 and X30, for sale. Lynx, the wheeled four-legged friend, is now set to follow.

Deep Robotics' robot dog has a largely conventional design and is similar to Spot from Boston Dynamics and the Go2 from Unitree, two of the best-known representatives of this type. The Go2 is also available in a wheeled version: the Go2-W.
Fast and skillful through the terrain
However, Deep Robotics has built Lynx much more robustly and has also given it four large, coarse-tread wheels that make the robot capable of off-road use. A video shows Lynx romping through the forest, tackling extreme inclines up and down. He adapts his movements independently to the terrain. Lynx manages to complete some sections of the route on just two wheels. When climbing uphill or over obstacles, the robot automatically locks individual or all wheels – depending on what is advantageous at the time. The robot dog can easily overcome obstacles up to 80 cm high. The ANYmal robot dog from ANYbotics, which also has four wheels on its legs, is similarly strong at overcoming obstacles.

Lynx's ability to move quickly through rough terrain with wheels or on four legs also indicates its areas of application. For example, it is suitable for search and rescue missions, mapping, inspections and carrying equipment.
Deep Robotics has not yet provided any precise technical details about Lynx. This will not happen until the market launch. The price will also be announced then.
