Typed but not sent – New WhatsApp function helps
The developers have already optimized many things on WhatsApp Messenger, but it was easy to forget drafts when you opened another chat.

It's probably happened to every Messenger user: You type a message, then a new one flutters in, you switch to the other chat and forget the original draft [-] out of sight, out of mind. The draft sits there unnoticed until you open the abandoned chat again hours or days later, possibly with the question in mind as to why the chat partner you supposedly wrote to has still not replied.
The developers now want to counteract such mishaps with a small but helpful change to the user interface. Messages that have not been sent remain permanently saved as drafts, and the corresponding chat appears at the top of the list. The app also colors the word "Draft" green. This is intended to keep unsent messages on the screen.
WhatsApp officially announced the new feature yesterday, Friday, via Threads, the discussion platform of Instagram, which, like WhatsApp, belongs to the Meta Group. This feature is not entirely new. Macwelt reported on it back in July, referring to WhatsApp Web on the Mac and the iOS version of WhatsApp.

The beginnings probably date back to last year. In May 2023, Teltarif reported on the chats with a green draft note in the web beta version for Windows. WhatsApp is now introducing the function across the board on Android and iOS, which is also the background to the current post. However, there is still room for improvement. For example, drafts remain on the device on which they were started and do not appear on other WhatsApp instances. This came out in a short test with the iOS and WhatsApp web app on a Mac.

If you are familiar with the WhatsApp drafts on your smartphone, you are right: previously, unsent messages were also kept in the input field of a chat for a certain period of time. However, the app did not place this chat at the top of the list and did not display the draft in the preview. The Signal messenger displays drafts in a similar way. Apple's iMessage does not do this.
