Red Hat Enterprise Linux version 9.5 has been released. It extends the web console with a file manager interface. This enables file management without using the CLI. Users can upload and move files and set their permissions directly from the browser. The new sudo system role includes an automated configuration for delegating administrative tasks in organizations. This allows work such as software distribution or network administration to be divided up.
Another change is the pre-hardened image configurations in the Image Builder. System administrators can build on these when creating their own images, which are used when setting up systems in companies. The new version 9.5 also includes IPv6 support for connecting to IPSec VPNs. Previously, this was only possible via IPv4 using the Network Manager's libreswan plug-in.
OpenELA follows suit
OpenELA then made enterprise Linux sources compatible with RHEL 9.5 available. This was the first demonstration of the new repository management process. This is intended to make Linux sources available within one day and enable the prompt development of compatible distributions.

Since last year, Red Hat has no longer made the RHEL source code publicly available. Only selected code is still accessible via the portal for paying corporate customers. This step made the development of RHEL derivatives more difficult. In response, Oracle, SUSE and CIQ founded the Open Enterprise Linux Association as providers of such derivatives. Other companies and authorities that require fast, reliable and secure access to Linux sources for downstream builds are now members of the association.
The repositories for OpenELA are available on GitHub. The announcement for RHEL 9.5 can be found on the Red Hat blog.
