The Bosch technology group plans to cut more than 5500 jobs worldwide by the end of 2032, including 3800 in Germany. Various business sectors are affected. It is necessary to "adapt structures to the changed market environment" and "sustainably reduce costs" in order to strengthen competitiveness, argued Stephan Hölzl, member of the divisional board for "Commercial Tasks" in the Cross-Domain Computing Solutions division.
On the one hand, the transition to electrified, software-defined vehicles is being delayed, which has a direct impact on production start-ups and demand from vehicle manufacturers at Bosch. On the other hand, Bosch has to invest large sums in these technological innovations. The aim is to make the job cuts "as socially responsible as possible", said Hölzl. Around 3,500 jobs are to be lost in the area of autonomous driving, around half of them in Germany. 1300 jobs are to be cut in the steering division at the Schwäbisch Gmünd site and 750 in Hildesheim.

Reduction in weekly working hours
The job cuts alone will not be enough. IG Metall reports that Bosch wants to downgrade all employment contracts with 40 or 38 hours per week to 35 – without any compensation. This would mean a loss of up to 15 percent in pay, which would affect around 2,300 associates at various locations, the union explained.
