OnlyOffice DocSpace 3.0: edit confidential documents together

Version 3.0 of the open-source collaboration software OnlyOffice DocSpace has been released. It now includes a virtual data room designed for working with confidential company information. It offers secure storage of documents, which users can add watermarks, copy restrictions or expiration dates to. Reports can also be created on the file structure.

The document management system rooms allow different rights to be assigned to individual users and user groups. These rights now also extend to public rooms. They can be released for editing, reviewing and commenting on content. Conversion from XML to Word or Excel files is possible with version 3.0.

Access for users and guests now free of charge

DocSpace 3.0 offers free guest access for the first time. People with this type of user can only access rooms for which an invitation has been issued. All users who belong to the company can invite guests. Regular users can also be added in the new version at no extra cost. For more security, OnlyOffice now only allows DocSpace admins and owners to perform actions that correspond to their role in the respective room.

There are two new user roles: "Room Manager" and "Content Creator". Room Manager is the highest-ranking user role in a room. Members of this role can manage the rooms assigned to them, invite users and assign roles to them. Content Creators have comprehensive editing rights for content, but cannot change the settings of the room or the assigned users. There is now also an OAuth 2.0 area. API access is possible there, which can be used to control functions such as authorization or file access. Users can manage their linked applications there.

Integrate DocSpace functions into your own software

OnlyOffice is now distributing a commercial version of the open-source tool under the name "DocSpace Developer". Companies can use it to integrate individual functions of the collaboration software into their own products and distribute them under their own brand on their own servers. Possible uses include project management applications and content management systems.

DocSpace 3.0 is free of charge as a community version without support. In the enterprise version with support, the costs in the public cloud currently amount to 20 euros per administrator. There is a limited free version for start-ups. Provision on your own server is available from 6,550 euros. Non-profit organizations and educational institutions receive special conditions.
