The Tails project has released version 6.10 of the anonymizing Linux distribution. The programmers have corrected minor errors and updated anonymizing components.
According to the version announcement by the Tails developers, they have corrected support for the crypto hardware wallet Trezor in Electrum, for example. Updated libraries were missing, which were also outdated in the underlying Debian. Updating to a newer library version solved the problem. In addition, the Gnome-based Tails desktop might not start correctly on systems with less memory.
Updated anonymization components
The developers have also stopped Thunderbird from saving telemetry data. At the same time, they have upgraded the mail program to the newer version 128.4.3, from the previous versions from the 115 development branch – the young software strand has received longer support from Mozilla. The Firefox-based Tor browser has been updated to version 14.0.3.

As usual, the updated version is available as an image for USB sticks to take with you and as an ISO image for burning to DVDs or for use in virtual machines. Tails 6.9, released at the beginning of November, already only involved minor updates to the core components.
Tails is used for anonymous surfing and communication on the Internet without leaving traces on local systems. It can also be started from a USB stick on other people's computers and uses the Tor network to conceal IP addresses and origins, for example, thus avoiding data that could be used to identify users.
Last weekend's issue of c't 3003 focused on the anonymizing Linux for carrying around on a USB stick. Jan-Keno Janssen explains how the operating system works and how interested parties can use it easily.
