The DECT radio technology introduced in the early 1990s can continue to be used in Germany until at least 2035. In its ruling number 102/2024, the Federal Network Agency allows the use of frequencies in the range between 1.88 and 1.90 GHz for DECT until December 31, 2035.

The general allocation of DECT frequencies was last extended in 2015.

As the name Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) suggests, DECT was developed in the early 1990s primarily for cordless telephones.

However, the radio technology also enables data transfer for other purposes, such as smart home networking. The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) published the DECT Ultra Low Energy (DECT ULE, TS 102 939-1) standard for this purpose in 2013.
