MacBook Air with M4: New indications of imminent release
Apple's best-selling notebook is supposedly set to be updated in spring 2025. Findings in macOS 15.2 support the assumption that the update is imminent.
There are growing signs that Apple could update the MacBook Air in spring 2025. In the update for the Mac operating system, macOS 15.2, released on Wednesday evening, the first mentions of the device have now been found, which is apparently still to be released in two sizes, 13 and 15 inches, and then with an M4 chip.
The news blog AppleInsider also claims to have obtained documents showing that Apple is planning to install an improved webcam in Apple's best-selling notebook. Currently, in the MacBook Air with the M3 chip, Apple sells the device with a 1080p resolution camera called FaceTime HD.
What could change
It can be assumed that Apple will build on the latest Macs –, namely the iMac with M4 and the new MacBook Pro models –, and install a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with Center Stage. The latter function always crops the image under software control to give the viewer the impression that the camera is following the person.

Rumors about a new MacBook Air with M4 have been circulating for months. It is fairly certain that Apple will also incorporate the M4 chip introduced with the iPad Pro in May into its consumer notebook. Whether there will be any major changes beyond that remains to be seen – The restraint in the rumor mill suggests that it will primarily remain with the processor. It is conceivable that the very popular nanotexture option for the display will also be offered for the MacBook Air. It is even more likely that Apple will abandon the Space Gray color option in favor of Space Black, as it has already done with the MacBook Pro M4.
RAM has already been increased
Apple has already upgraded the RAM of the MacBook Air with the new Mac releases in October. The change even applies to the MacBook Air with M2, which Apple is still selling. The unified memory has been increased from 8 GB in the basic configuration to at least 16 GB. The reason for this is apparently the introduction of Apple Intelligence.
