Game Awards 2024: "Astro Bot" is the game of the year
This year's Game of the Year can be found on the Playstation 5. Other winners of the Game Awards include "Balatro" and "Metaphor: ReFantazio".

"Astro Bot" scooped the top prize for best game at this year's Game Awards, while the Playstation title was also named best action & adventure game and best title for families. The award for Best Director also went to the game. This was decided by the jury and community for the prestigious award. The other big winners of the evening in Los Angeles included the poker card game "Balatro" (Best Independent Game, Best Indie Debut, Best Mobile Game) and the role-playing game "Metaphor: ReFantazio" (Best Role-Playing Game, Best Narrative, Best Art Design). There were also two awards each for "Black Myth: Wukong", "Helldivers II" and "Senua's Saga: Hellblade II".
The nominations for the Game Awards are first pre-selected by a jury of journalists, while the community is allowed to help decide the winners: The jury's vote counts for 90 percent, while the players' vote contributes 10 percent to the result – Only for the Players' Voice Award does the community single-handedly pick the winner. A year ago, the title for the best game went to "Baldur's Gate 3", while "Elden Ring" came out on top the year before that. There was another title for "Baldur's Gate 3" this year, with developer studio Larian being awarded the prize for best community support, as in the previous year.

In recent years, the Game Awards have increasingly developed into a leading event in the video game industry. In addition to the award ceremonies, the event largely consists of trailers and new announcements on a scale that is usually only seen at E3. This year, a first trailer for "The Witcher 4", a first look at "Borderlands 4", a gameplay trailer for "The Outer Worlds 2", a trailer for "Mafia: The Old Country", and previews of the science fiction/fantasy game "Split Fiction", the soccer game "Rematch", the stealth game "Thick as Thieves" and a trailer for "Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet" from studio Naughty Dog caused quite a stir.
