Rumors about a change in the arrangement of the cameras on the back of the iPhone 17 Pro are currently causing a stir in the Apple bubble. According to a media report, Apple is planning to arrange the cameras in a horizontal strip for the first time on the next Pro model, which is expected in September 2025. A leaker from China has now contradicted this report. He claims that the square camera module will remain. However, there is agreement on the question of whether Apple will generally change the back more than usual.
The US tech publication The Information first reported a few weeks ago that Apple wanted to manufacture the housings of the future iPhone 17 line from aluminum and was thus planning to move away from stainless steel and titanium. The back of the Pro and Pro Max models will in future be made partly of aluminum and partly of glass. A rectangular camera area made of aluminum is planned for the top, while the bottom will continue to be made of glass to ensure wireless charging via MagSafe.
Leaker: Cameras will stay where they are
The leaker "Instant Digital", who is apparently based in China and has so far made some correct and some incorrect statements about future Apple products, explained on the social network Weibo that Apple will continue to rely on the triangular formation of the cameras in a square protrusion. He was referring to a source at one of Apple's suppliers in China. However, the appearance of the back will indeed change, he admitted, without going into details.

The previous arrangement of the cameras dates back to the iPhone 11 generation from 2019. Much of the information in the report is nevertheless questionable: a change to the horizontal could cause problems with the recently added ability to record spatial videos with the iPhone. Since the iPhone 15 Pro, Apple has used titanium as the material for the housing of its Pro models. A switch to aluminum also seems questionable against this background, as Apple gave a lot of space to the advantages of the high-quality titanium housing when it was introduced.
